Title

[X154A7FB], Letter from Josiah Custer Reiff to Uriah Hunt Painter, December 12th, 1888

Editor's Notes

"Referring more specifically to yours of 6th, I repor that the money was paid Hartz as requested. ## To keep matters perfectly plain, I had him draw upon me for your a/c & then I have a duplicate voucher. ## As to Lippincott, I should [favorably?] consider any proposition that would help his scheme. I should try & get something on a/c & offer 30 & to days extention with interest & yield what was necessary. ## He has evidently been badly bled, which of course is not your fault, but still I guess you will be better off not to have him fail. ## You cannot buy any Edison Light or Bergmann stock simply because there is none offered. The price of Edison Light [has ranked?] up gradually to 150/152 on a few shares 5 or 10. ##I guess the best thing to do is to [-----] the formation of the new Co & then pick up the [deferred?] stock when pressed on the market. ## I think Bergmann will sell out entirely after the next securities are issued. Of course you could buy 50 or 100 shares Edison Light even @ 160, I suppose you would make money, as it will probablay net 200 after while, but you cannot sometimes [generally?] always tell. ## Whey don't I get the Congl Record & a copy of the reports of Interior Dept [remainder illeg Reiff script]"
