This folder contains correspondence and other documents relating to Edison's Telescribe, a device for recording telephone conversations. Included is a remark by Edison doubting the value of an automatic recorder "as the demand is only for recording a business conversation." The correspondents include Joe Mitchell Chapple, of the National Magazine, who publicized Edison's invention with an article entitled "The Triumph of the Telescribe." Page proofs of the article are included.
Approximately 50 percent of the documents have been selected. The unselected material consists primarily of unsolicited correspondence that received a perfunctory response or no reply from Edison.
