This folder contains correspondence and other documents relating to Edison's views on cigarette smoking and the use of tobacco in general. Among the items for 1918 are letters to and from Prof. Henry Romano of Syracuse University regarding Edison's refusal to allow his name to be used in connection with a committee to investigate the effects of tobacco use. Also included is a letter to Calvin P. Bollman of Liberty Magazine in which Edison reiterates his well-known opinion about the harmful effects of acrolein produced by the burning of cigarette paper.
Approximately 20 percent of the documents have been selected. Some of the unselected letters received responses from Edison's assistant, William H. Meadowcroft, referring the inquirer to a 1914 booklet published by Henry Ford, The Case Against the Little White Slaver.
