The Thomas A. Edison Papers Digital Edition

This scrapbook covers the period 1875-1877; there is also at least one item for 1878. Most of the material relates to Edison's electric pen and duplicating press. Many pages contain sample documents that were produced by the pen and used as advertisements. There are also several items relating to the exhibition of the electric pen at the 1876 Centennial Exhibition, including two notes in Japanese written by members of the Japanese Commission. The book also contains printed circulars, newspaper clippings, testimonial letters, and copies made by Eugenio de Zuccato's "Papyrograph," a copier which competed with the electric pen. The spine of the volume is labelled "Electrical Pen Scraps T.A. Edison Menlo Park, N.J. 1876." The book contains approximately 150 unnumbered pages.
