Title
[D8148ZAX], Letter from George Edward Gouraud to Thomas Alva Edison, April 14th, 1881
Editor's Notes
Rcd yours of 4 Apr with 2 enclosures, but not certified copy of Edison Tel Co Euro contract with Nottbeck, Bouquie, and Francis dePuskas(?!). Bailey memo says they will follow. Long delay of these papers has caused trouble. PS: Since writing this all the documents have arrived. Contracts with N, B, & P are "unfortunate and prejudicial to the issue of the Co." Puskas and I agree to leave out Hungary. Planning to meet with Nottbeck & Bouquie; hope to be able to buy them out for reasonable sum since they haven't made any headway with their business. Quotes cable already sent "Trying issue European fortnight. Indispensable state prospectus. Apparatus, engineers already at several important places. They should go immediately. We will advance thousand pounds on your cable authority." The Bell part of our combination learn of some competition in Italy, strongly advise immediate dispatch of men & equipment there; already sent to Turin & Rome.
