Title
[D8747AAD], Letter from Frederick Augustus Genth to Thomas Alva Edison, August 9th, 1887
Editor's Notes
"Your favor of 6th inst recd. this morning. Mr. L. Stadtmuller in New Haven and Geo. L. English & Co. 1512 Chestnut St Philadelphia are Mineral dealers. ## I am just re-arranging my mineral collection and expect to get through with this work in about two months. After I know what I have, I may feel inclined to sell to an institution or individual who could appreciate its value. ## About ten or twelve years ago considerable amounts of tellurium ores were found in Colorado, especially in Boulder County at the Smuggler Mine, the John Jay Mine, the Red Cloud Mine and several others, but I am informed that these ores are pretty well exhausted; besides, on account of their very high value in gold and silver and the want of proper appliances the tellurium was wasted. The best source is therefore probably Hungary and Transylvania, where the tellerium is saved by working up the auriferous and argentiferous tellerium ores. In a recent pricelist of Dr. Heinrich Konig & Co in Leipzig I find it quoted at 9 makrs per Decagram. Probably from the Austrian Mining Department it can be had at a considerably lower price, but that I do not know. --"
