Title
[D8747AAE], Letter from George Jarvis Brush to Thomas Alva Edison, August 9th, 1887
Editor's Notes
"In answer to your favor of the 6th ult. I would state that Krantz & Co Bonn on the Rhine (P[--------]) are probably the largest dealers in minerals, by simple specimen or quantity. T. Schuchardt Gorlity Llidia is a manufacturer of chemicals who also deals largely in minerals. Both of these houses send minerals to all parts of the world and have carved (?) panda[-]ts to collect for them. In this country we have Dr. A. E. Forte. Bel[-----] Ave Philadelphia and recently Mr. L. Cush[--] & Co 1512 Chestnut St Philadelphia advertise extensively, but I know nothing from experience about them. They have, however, for sale the collections of the late John C. Trautwine which I know to be a very fine collection of minerals. Mr. Trautwine was an excellent minerologist and collected for over 30 years with great industry and discrimination. I consider it a very valuable collection and one of the most complete as regards species in the country. Such a thing as a "perfect mineralog[---] collection" does not exist; has Trautwine's is one the choice collections of minerals. If any one desires to purchase a collection containing well determine and accurately labelled species as to names & [---------] I think it would be difficult to find a better one than this. ## We have also a mineral dealer in Mr Sta[---], whom I can recommend as an honest competent mineralogist and who has always a large number of great minerals on sale. His name is L. Stadtmueller (43 Whitney Avenue New Haven)--"
