- In consequence of the rapid increase in Mr Edisons business I have found it necessary to engage a shorthand writer to assist me & I am therefore regretfully compelled to part with your services.##As the gentleman I have engaged will enter upon his duties on Saturday. I think you had better arrange to leave tomorrow (Friday) when I will give you a check for $40.00 being two weeks wages from this date.
