[LBCD3119], Letter from Alfred Ord Tate to Samuel Insull, November 8th, 1883

Editor's Notes

15 pages. ### wrt Upton I saw Hastings about giving him money for his payroll; he needed $1800 total; Hastings could only give $1000. Upton will have to pay outstanding notes first, then pay part of his payroll on Saturday. "Besides he'd have simply appropriated the extra $500 and have come around here on Saturday howling for pay roll money.." ### Specifics about orders for central stations. ### TAE told me to ask Dwelly to come here at once wrt Fall River; he will be here tomorrow. ### Saw Bergmann wrt Kruesi's castings. ### Campbell will start on our files tomorrow. ### "I 'went' for Randolph in accordance with your desire and he said he once before included the 'Batchelor a/c' in a statement of a similar kind and you told him not to do it again." ### Arranged with Hutchinson to recall Doubleday who comes here next Saturday. ### Milan lamps (2700) ship tomorrow. ### Today sent estimates for Norwich, Natick, Danbury, Neenah. Mt. Carmel goes tomorrow. Hazelton also tomorrow. ### "Great God this [snap?] must be commencing to boom when people complain about our not commencing work before they have even seen an estimate! I only hope that this is a fore-runner of the boom that will start all over which will enable us to assume a more independent position in our relations with certain people. Hitherto we have been a sort of a 'butt' for everybody to kick at but the day is fast approaching when they will simply pile gold at our feet!!!" ### Closes letter at midnight. ### xxx great for annotation about Insull and Tate's expectations and relns with Eaton/parent company/financiers dh 50ct06 xxx
